Ingredient: Walnuts

Walnuts are the edible seeds of any tree of the genus Juglans. They are characterized by a brown, wrinkly hard shell that encloses the kernel, which is the consumable part of the nut. Walnuts are rich in calories, but they are also ripe with fiber, minerals, vitamins, and essential nutrients. Thus, they can serve as an ideal snack (preferably not more than 1 or 2 walnuts a day) and are even used in the Keto diet since eating a handful of walnuts daily would stimulate weight loss and contribute to heart and gut health. Not to mention they are good for the brain and may reduce the risk of cancer. Walnuts are the oldest known tree food and have been dubbed “head” by the Greeks for their shape, which resembles that of a brain. They were also known as “royal nuts” in the Byzantine Era. There are many sweet and savory ways to include walnuts in a daily diet to reap their benefits. Walnuts can be used as a garnish for dishes and desserts if crushed, mixed with smoothies if ground, included in dip or stuffing when roasted, or served raw along with other nuts and dried fruit for minimalists. Inadequate storage, however, can lead to high risks of walnuts getting spoilt. So it is advised to keep them away from humidity and at the low temperature of -3 to 0°C.
