Sweet Paprika is a variety of the typical paprika powder that is purely made from sweet dried and ground red bell peppers. The latter is also called by the same name in certain contexts. It has a mildly sweet taste. But sometimes, it can even taste fruity and a little bitter. When a recipe calls for “paprika,” it usually refers to sweet Paprika. It provides a sweeter flavor to the dish and calms down its heat. 1 teaspoon of sweet Paprika contains 6 calories, 0.3 grams of protein, 0.3 grams of fat, 1.2 grams of carbohydrates, 0.8 grams of fiber, and 0.2 grams of sugar. It is rich in substances like vitamin A, capsaicin, and antioxidants that prove their ability to prevent inflammation, regulate cholesterol levels, boost metabolism and improve eye health, among other various benefits. Sweet Paprika is used to add an attractive bright color to dishes and can be sprinkled over anything and everything for decoration. Sweet Paprika is available in the dry herbs and spices section of the supermarket, usually simply labeled as “Paprika,” or can also be made at home from bell peppers. To make a substantial amount of sweet Paprika, there should be around 10 to 15 bell peppers. They have to be dried by stringing them under the sun or over a dehydrator for a couple of days. After making sure they are fully dried, big parts that cannot be ground should be removed; then, using a grinder of choice, the peppers are ground into fine powder. You must keep sweet Paprika in an airtight jar in the pantry for longer shelf life.
