Ingredient: Rub

Rub

A Rub is a mixture of dried spices and herbs combined and then applied to the food. The primary purpose of rubbing is to add flavor to your meat or any other kind of edible. There are two types of rubs; dry rub and wet rub. Dry rubs consist of mainly spices like ginger, basil, chili flakes, paprika, etc. You can get creative with your dry rub, look for a recipe or create your personalized batch of seasoning. On the other hand, wet rubs are just dry rubs but with an additional liquid ingredient. It consists of liquid ingredients like juice, broths, or oil that are stirred together to form a paste and then applied to your food. For instance, try white wine vinegar and olive oil, peeled garlic, kosher salt, dried oregano, and black peppercorns, mix them well and apply it to your steak or poultry. Keep in mind that some food doesn’t need all that spice; a pinch of salt and pepper will suffice. Some meat, however, are best consumed with their sauce, like pork ribs. You can marinate your food in a spice rub for some time for the flavors to incorporate into the food, or you can cook it immediately after it is coated in the rub.
