Ingredient: Feta cheese

Feta Cheese is a Greek brined curd white cheese made from sheep’s milk or from a mixture of sheep and goat’s milk. It is soft with small or no holes, a smooth texture, and no skin. It is formed into blocks and has a tangy and slightly salty flavor that ranges from mild to sharp. High-quality feta cheese is creamy, mildly sour, with a spicy finish similar to that from pepper or ginger and a hint of sweetness. These characteristics render it not only a popular table cheese but also an ingredient in a variety of recipes. Faithful to its origins, feta cheese sits well in a Greek salad alongside black olives, red onions, and cucumbers. But it goes with several dishes as well, such as on top of pizza, in a sandwich paired with olive oil and vinegar, on mashed or baked potatoes, with cooked vegetables or raw fruits, as a stuffing for mushrooms, zucchini or peppers, as a dip, in an omelet, with pasta, nachos or meat and even roasted on its own. It is considered the healthiest cheese option in the world, making it a popular element in a healthy diet, but it lasts less than a week in a refrigerator and becomes dry if not consumed quickly. As for feta cheese enclosed in an unopened package, it can only last for one month before starting to go stale.
